Class of 2026

Congratulations to our 2026 scholarship recipients!

Each one of these deserving students are champions for suicide prevention!

The scholarship applicants were challenged with the following prompt:

“In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI) has been used in mental health care to detect warning signs of emotional distress, connect people to support, and even predict when someone might be at risk of suicide. Imagine you are a researcher, counselor, or technology designer tasked with creating an AI tool to help prevent suicide among teens.

Consider the following:

  • What features or tools your AI system would have (e.g., chatbots, social media monitoring, crisis alerts).

  • How it would protect privacy and ensure safety.

  • The potential benefits and challenges (negative impacts) of using AI for such a sensitive issue.

  • How AI could work alongside human counselors, teachers, and families.  In other words, how can interpersonal connections between humans be balanced with AI to address mental health?”

Their videos and essays explore the latest research and offer their own thoughts and ideas relative to this prompt.
